Free skiing and snowboarding *in* the city

Date posted: January 9, 2014

Ruby Hill Rail Yard is opening for its 8th season this weekend for another 6-8 week run. Ruby Hill Rail Yard opened in January 2007 and was the USA’s first free terrain park in a downtown area. The park was created by Winter Park Resorts in an effort to attract urban youth to winter sports and has since seen huge success. Christy Sports donates equipment for use while at Ruby Hill. (http://denver.cbslocal.com/2014/01/08/ruby-hill-rail-yard-to-open/)
The park is open every day from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and lights will be on at the rail yard until 9:00 p.m. Youth, ages 8-17, will need to have a parent present to sign a release form before snowboards and/or skis will be loaned out. On-site equipment loan facility will be open on Fridays from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Ruby Hill Park is located off of South Platte River Drive and West Florida Avenue.

For La Alma/Lincoln Park residents to get there, take the light rail to Broadway Station and pick up the 11 bus heading West to W Mississippi & S Jason. It’s a 10 minute walk from there. More specific directions here: http://goo.gl/maps/J87ts
