Parks and Recreation
The La Alma-Lincoln Park neighborhood is home to several unique Park and Recreation amenities:
La Alma-Lincoln Park consists of two city blocks (between Osage, 10th,Mariposa, and 11th), and has wide green lawns and shady trees. Facilities include two playgrounds, two basketball courts, a baseball diamond, amphitheater, and outdoor fitness zone.
The park is home to the La Alma Recreation Center and Pool, which offers weight-training, cardio, athletics and other programming. It also serves as a gathering space for community meetings.
Sunken Gardens Park (along Speer Boulevard, between 8th and 10th) offers the neighborhood another lovely walking path, playground and wide lawn. The park serves as the front yard to our beautiful West High School, and you will often see students taking advantage of nice weather there.
Two of our neighborhood boundaries offer cyclists access to our city’s largest dedicated bike paths, on the Cherry Creek Path to the east and and South Platte River Path to the west. These safe and scenic paths are open to skaters, walkers, runners, too.
New playing fields and a fitness trail are currently underway for Metro State University (MSU) athletic complex within our neighborhood. More info
Just across the South Platte River, Sun Valley is planning a big redevelopment project. To help kick it off, and stimulate the use of the South Platte River Trail, look for for a new park along our western border. Sun Valley Riverfront Park is under construction.
