The La Alma Lincoln Park Neighborhood Association (LPNA) has been working to activate La Alma Lincoln Park, to improve safety, and to raise awareness of the expected pressures from a boom in residential and commercial development nearby. On the 3rd Saturday of June 2014, we held our first Party in the Park event. It was fine day for a neighborhood BBQ. Partnering with Denver Inner City Parish’s Senior Luncheon, we saw over 300 neighbors enjoy coming together as a community in La Alma Lincoln Park.
Planning began around our first donation of burgers and dogs from Relic Fine Art Photography. NEWSED stepped up with tents for booths. Councilwoman Montero sponsored our permit. Monetary contributions came from neighborhood businesses and organizations: McDonald’s, 8z Real Estate, Dr. Aubrey from the Center for Animal Wellness, NEWSED, and Emily Griffith’s Technical College. DHA helped promote the event to our new neighbors at Mariposa. Arts Street’s Chelsea had a fun first day of work painting kid’s faces and DICP inflated its bouncy castle. Some folks from Denver Open Media and Emily Griffith Technical College were there to promote their offerings. Our reliable Realtor, Pepe Aragon from 8z, set up some volleyball nets, too.
For 2015, we expect Party in the Park 2 to draw more neighbors together, adding a some live music and expanding participation. It also is serving as the launch of LPNA’s new “Butterfly Walk” art installation. With new neighbor, Emily Griffith Technical College, nearing completion, the school is excited to share their opportunities and plan on offering free haircuts. NEWSED, Denver Water and 8z have provided generous donations.
